Our Story

The Beginning
Sometimes I think FURISTO didn’t really begin with its official opening in June 2010.
It began long before that, in front of a shelf in a store.
I stood there with a jar in my hand, reading the label yet again. Just as so many mothers do. I was trying to find that sense of reassurance we all look for – the certainty that what we put on the table is truly the best for our child.
But I could never quite find it.
My name is Margarita, and my husband Martin and I were simply a family looking for food made the way we would prepare it ourselves at home. When we couldn’t find it, we decided not to wait for someone else to create it.
We decided to do it ourselves.
That’s how the story of FURISTO began.
The Team
In the beginning, FURISTO was simply a dream that Martin and I shared. Over time, that idea began to grow.
At first, it was just the two of us. Then came a few more people who believed in the same thing we did – that there should be no compromise when it comes to food for children.
Today, behind FURISTO is a team of people who are more than just colleagues. They are parents. People who read labels too. Who ask the same questions. And who want the same thing – the very best for their own children.
And perhaps that is exactly why we do everything with such care.
Our Trusted Partners
From the very beginning, we knew that if we wanted to create food that other parents could trust, we first had to trust every ingredient that entered our kitchen.
Every ingredient has a story. Every supplier is chosen through a relationship of trust that takes time to build.
We work with organic seasonal fruit and vegetables from local farms, pasture-raised meat from Bulgarian farms, organic Italian pasta and organic low-acidity tomatoes. We use Spanish extra virgin olive oil and eggs from free-range hens, while for our organic menu we use certified organic eggs from a trusted local partner.
Not because it sounds good.
But because we believe this is what food for a child should be.
How We Cook
People often ask me what the secret behind FURISTO food is. Martin and I believe that how we prepare the food is just as important as the ingredients we choose.
That is why we follow a simple principle in our kitchen – to prepare food the way we would prepare it at home for our own children.
We don’t fry vegetables. We cook them gently, allowing them to keep their natural flavour.
We don’t thicken soups with flour or starch. We let them be just as they are meant to be.
We wait until the very end to add extra virgin olive oil, helping preserve everything valuable in it.
We give meat the time it needs to become naturally tender instead of rushing the process.
We season our food with fresh herbs and spices rather than unnecessary additives.
We don’t add sugar when fruit is already sweet enough. And we make our own preserves from wild organic berries.
These are not big secrets. They are small choices we make every single day. Choices that may seem almost unnoticeable on their own, but together make all the difference.
Because we believe this is how you make food that helps children grow up healthy.
The Footprint We Leave Behind
When you prepare and deliver food every day to thousands of families, as well as to nurseries, kindergartens and schools, you inevitably leave a footprint behind.
It has always been important to us to make that footprint as small as possible.
Over the years, we have therefore begun changing different parts of the way we work – from the packaging we use and the energy we cook with to the vehicles we use to deliver our food.
One of the most important steps was giving families the opportunity to return their used cardboard packaging to us so that we could send it for recycling. Over time, more and more parents began taking part. Not because they had to, but because for them too, it became a natural part of something we were doing together.
And then, one day, we woke up to the news that, together with our customers, we had returned more than 40% of the previous month’s packaging for recycling.
But packaging is only one part of the story.
We have solar panels on the roof of FURISTO, which means that part of the energy we use every day comes from a renewable source. We are also gradually replacing our vehicles with electric ones, because when you deliver to so many addresses every day, how you get there matters too.
And when choosing materials for our everyday operations, whenever possible, we look for options that are either made from recycled materials or can themselves be recycled.
We haven’t reached the end, and perhaps we never will. There will always be something more we can do better.
But there is one part of this story that is particularly important to me.
Every time a family collects their packaging and returns it to us, somewhere beside them there is a child watching.
Because we believe that caring for the planet is not something we teach children through words alone.
We teach it through the example we set for them every day.
The FURISTO Family
Over time, something happened around us that we had never planned.
People started coming back. Writing to us. Telling us about their children. Sharing their first bites, their first favourite flavours, even their first refusals.
And this quiet, yet very real presence in the lives of so many families is the greatest expression of trust we could ever receive.
Because this isn’t something that happens with a single purchase.
It is a relationship that grows slowly – over the years, through choices and through trust.
And we value it more than we can put into words.
Welcome to our FURISTO family,
Margarita & Martin Radulovi
